Cristina Jorge de Carvalho awarded in Los Angeles by the International Design Awards
The Interior Designer Cristina Jorge de Carvalho receives an International Design Award for her project for the Champalimaud Foundation
The International Design Awards – IDA – are a global reference in the design industry recognizing and celebrating the work of legendary design visionaries.
The award ceremony, for the 2011 winners, took place in Los Angeles, May 5th, and was attended by renowned names of the design industry.
The project developed for Champalimaud Foundation had the building as its starting point, which was designed by the architect Charles Correa. For the humanization of this space, Cristina Jorge de Carvalho idealized areas where to be is the most relevant action and where comfort is essential – spaces which can be more or less intimate and/or formal, thus seizing the human scale of the building.
Cristina Jorge de Carvalho defines the evocation of nature as central to this project, by using material such as wood, straw and linens; as well as through the projections of the garden on the interior walls of the building, creating a continuous dialogue between exterior and interior. The emotional component is highlighted through the color scheme and through the positive emotions expressed through graphic projections at the entrance (“Projection Artwork: Lighweeds – Site responsive light projection – Simon Heijdens ©2006”).
