Cristina Jorge de Carvalho receives International Award in Los Angeles
Cristina Jorge de Carvalho has received in Los Angeles the Silver award attributed by the International Design Awards (IDA), in the category of Conceptual Interior Design for the Project developed by her atelier – Cristina Jorge de Carvalho Interior Design – for the Champalimaud Foundation’s Investigation Center.
The awarded Project – which was not implemented – had as a starting point the proper Foundation’s building, designed by the architect Charles Correa. For the humanization of the space, Cristina Jorge de Carvalho idealised areas where ‘being’ becomes the most relevant action and where comfort is essential – spaces that can be more or less intimate and/or formal, thus absorbing the human scale of the building.
Cristina Jorge de Carvalho defines the evocation of nature as the central point of this project by using materials such as wood, straw and linens, as well as through the projections of the garden on the interior walls of the building, creating a continuous dialogue between exterior and interior. The emotional component is highlighted with the colour scheme and through the positive emotions expressed by the use of graphic projections at the entrance.
The 2011 awards ceremony was held in Los Angeles on the 5th of May, 2013 and welcomed renowned designers from all over the globe such as Ministry of Design, One Plus Partnership Limited and Simone Micheli, among many others.
