Classic Apartment at Principe Real

Classic Apartment at Principe Real

Interior Architecture | Residential | Lisbon - Portugal

Inspired by the aristocratic ambiance of Lisbon's 18th-century neighbourhood, Principe Real, Cristina Jorge de Carvalho Studio embarked on an interior architecture project that paid homage to the area's rich heritage. Despite the extensive renovation, the project carefully preserved the traditional classical elements in the apartment, namely its crown mouldings and friezes.

However, rather than merely replicating the past, the design infused these classical elements with contemporary details, seamlessly blending the old with the new. Traditional Portuguese materials like hydraulic mosaic, hand-glazed tiles, Portuguese marbles, and wooden pavements took centre stage, with a modern interpretation that imbued the space with a sense of uniqueness, truly befitting a Lisbon apartment.

Through the discerning eye of interior designer Cristina Jorge de Carvalho, the project achieved a delicate balance between preserving history and embracing modernity, resulting in an interior that exudes charm, character, and a deep connection to its heritage-rich surroundings.
